  • This assumes a resurfacing job over an existing slab that's structurally sound but cosmetically worn — flaking, scaling, minor pitting, hairline cracking. It is not a substitute for demolition and repour on a slab that's cracked through, heaved, or settling; a resurfacer bonded to a moving substrate fails the same way the substrate does.
  • Bag coverage scales directly with the thickness you choose: doubling from 1/8" to 1/4" roughly doubles the bag count for the same area, since you're spreading the same product over the same footprint at twice the depth. Pick the thinnest coat that hides the wear — going thicker than needed just spends more on material with no extra durability.
  • Surface prep decides whether this lasts. Pressure wash and etch (or acid-etch) every job regardless of condition so the resurfacer has a clean, open pore structure to key into; skipping that step is the single most common reason a resurfacing job peels within the first year.

How to resurface a concrete slab

    Measure and choose a thickness

How much concrete resurfacer do I need?

Coverage depends entirely on the thickness you apply: a 40 lb bag covers roughly 45 sq ft at 1/8" but only about half that at 1/4", because you're spreading the same volume of material over a deeper layer. Multiply your slab's square footage by the coat thickness in feet to get cubic feet needed, then divide by the bag's mixed yield. Can resurfacer fix a cracked or heaving slab?

No — resurfacer is a thin cosmetic and light structural-patch layer that bonds to the existing surface, not a repair for a slab that's cracked all the way through, heaving, or settling unevenly. It will bridge hairline shrinkage cracks and hide pitting and scaling, but a slab with real structural movement needs the underlying cause fixed (or the section replaced) or the crack will telegraph straight back through the new coat within a season or two.

Do I need to prime before resurfacing?
